I have several iMac G3's that I just purchased. They cover the
spectrum from 233MHz Bondi to 600MHz Graphite. They have various
different memory configurations. I'd like to get them all to some
kind of standard configuration based on the OS version and 'maybe' the
speed of the machine.

All of the tray loaders (333MHz and below) are running OS 9.2.2.
All of the slot loaders (350MHz and above) are running OS 10.4.11

Since most of these machines aren't going to be used frequently, I was
thinking above putting a 'comfortable minimum' memory configuration.
I know Apple lists what the minimum memory requirements are for the
different OS versions, but as we all know, it does't make for a very
pleasant user experience. I might want to load a couple of machines
(a 500MHz Indigo and the 600MHz Graphite) up just a little more
because I'll probably actually be using them.

I booted a 333MHz Lime with only 32MB into OS 9.2.2 and to my surprise
I actually got around pretty nicely. Now, of course, I wasn't running
any apps and it wasn't connected to the network. I'm sure that would
have had a big impact on performance. I was thinking 128MB would be
good for the OS 9.2.2 machines.

Many of the Tiger machines only have 128MB of RAM, which I believe is
the minimum for Tiger. They seem to get along nicely even when
connected to the Internet. For occasional use (mostly just turning
them on and briefly showing them off) I was thinking 256MB.

On the two machines that I'll actually be using more frequently, I was
thinking 512MB. I'm not doing any heavy-duty stuff. No graphics. No
music composition/recording. Just surfing and iTunes mostly. I think
1GB would be unnecessary.

I could test the smaller configuration (because I have that memory on
hand). I can't test the larger configurations. Does anyone have any
thoughts on this? Thanks.

Lonnie.
