That ultimate boot cd is probably for Intel machines, not PPC.  You
certainly can boot from the optical drive, though.  I have used a 2gig
flash drive with OS 9, but the experience was just aweful (it was
formatted as FAT32).  OS 9 would stall for a few minutes after
insertion, and would not boot properly if the drive was attatched.
Perhaps it would work better formatted for Macintosh instead of
Windows.  But from my experience, I recommend a drive smaller than
2gigs.
