Well, the Mac was still running, though it was probably stuck on  
something...if the background picture is there the system is still  
running.

You can hold the power button down for ~20 seconds to force a power- 
off. Easier than reaching around and yanking the cord. Just hold the  
power button down until it goes off.

If it's happened just once, nah, it's not a problem. If it starts  
happening regularly, then there may be an issue.
