Hi Eduardo,

I had a similar experience yesterday that may or may not be relevant.
I am on 2.8 GHz Intel Imac with iMovie '09. I have an external
firewire drive plugged into the firewire 800 port on the back of the
iMac. When I plugged my camera (Canon Elura 90) into the firewire 400
port on the iMac, iMovie reported communication errors and the System
Profiler was not able to read the firewire busses. When I plugged the
camera into the firewire 400 port on the firewire hard drive,
everything worked normally.

One complication is that my camera is not on the list of cameras
officially supported by iMovie '09. None the less, once the firewire
connection issue was resolved, it worked without a problem. I am not
sure why the hard drive in the fw 800 port and the camera in the fw
400 port caused a problem. Perhaps others on the list have some
relevant insight. Hope this helps.

Jim
