I bought a 230 slot-loading a couple of years ago that also appeared to die.
Turns out there is a small battery inside that may be the problem. You'll
have to open it u, which is not all that hard -- use common sense and extra
care so you don't zap yourself. I think the battery was about $10 and if you
take it with you to a place like Batteries Plus, they can test it to see if
it is the problem before you invest in a new one. Best of luck.  Michael
