I could be all wet, but as I understand it -----:

Boot your ibook to 'Target Disk Mode' I.E. power on while holding the  
"T" key on the keyboard.

Attach Firewire cable between the ibook and the iMac.

Power on the iMac, while holding the 'option/alt' key.
This should give you a screen showing all available (to the Mac)  
'bootable systems', one of which SHOULD be the DVD drive in the  
ibook, others being whatever is presently available on the iMac.

At this point, select the ibook DVD with the 'Tiger' install disk,  
follow the onscreen prompts for a 'normal' installation.
