ALL of these oils are nothing BUT Petroleum distillates. Oil ==  
Petroleum, oil out of the oil fields is distilled into various  
components. This is what an oil refinery does.

3-in-One oil is essentially the same thing as Singer SM Oil.

The criticism of 3-in-one oil is not that it's terrible, but that it's  
not right for all applications.

ANY oils that's liquid at room temperature has a lot of volatile  
components in it, and heat and exposure to ail WILL cause it to become  
more viscous, as viscosity is largely a function of hydrocarbon chain  
length in petroleum products.
