No. For Internet service, the speed chokepoint is usually in the cable modem, the cable hookup beyond it outside the home, and in the Internet itself. Ethernet is always better than wireless for internal local area networking within the home between computers. > If not, any > suggestions on what i can do to increase performance? First check your cables. Make sure that your Ethernet cable from the modem to the router is plugged into the router's "WAN" port, possibly yellow in color. You may need to educate yourself in setting up the router, or at least in checking its settings. It is possible that the router is set for features you do not need and which usually slow down performance. Is the router set for assigning the IP address to your G4 via DHCP? > > Would i have better speed going wireless myself? It is way too early to think about that extra complication. Go here for their Speed Test on your Internet performance under varying conditions. Router vs no router. Roommate's wireless vs his Ethernet vs your Ethernet. http://www.speakeasy.net/ Al Poulin --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's iMac List, a group for those using G3, G4, G5, and Intel Core iMacs as well as Apple eMacs.
