Note exactly true.

Carbon applications run on OS 9 and OS X.  On Intel machines they still 
can run using Rosetta.  Makes for rather long life for some software. 
Carbon was an API that is supported under both OS 9 and X.  This means 
the program runs natively on a PPC under either version of the OS.

AppleWorks 6 is a Carbon application which I have run on my OS 9 Power 
Macs and on this machine, a MacBook Pro.
