Restart the eMac holding down the shift key and it will start in
safemode. Goto the startup pref panel and set it to your startup disk.
Check your version there too jut incase OSX thinks your usb stick is
the hardrive. Ive always been told to copy any osx upgrade to  the
harddrive before starting it
