This is interesting! My Early 2006 iMac also has the same problem (it
has currently way more than 30 vertical lines on the display). I
mentioned the problem in my local Apple representative (not official,
we don't have official Apple stores here in Portugal) and they told me
they needed to replace the display panel. The servicing cost alone was
more than the Mac was worth, so I bought a 22'' HP monitor and have
been using it connected to the iMac.

But this may be exactly what I need... I will check the serial number,
in order to make sure it is in the range mentioned in the forum, and
then I might contact the local Apple representative.

Here in Portugal everything we buy has 2 years of warranty. The first
line appeared 2-3 months after the warranty ended - now call that
luck :(.
