OS X is still very much a *nix distribution, being BSD under the hood. For PPC purposes, I really like Debian GNU/Linux as well, and have it running on two of my PowerBook G3 Lombards. Personally, I would run a Tiger/Debian dual-boot, but that is just my personal opinion.
