The only time I can get any sound from the internal speakers is when I hold
down the programmers button. Someone suggested doing that as a way to
determine if it was a hardware problem (i.e. loose speaker wire or a similar
type issue) or a software problem. When I did this, I got the loud familiar
beep. What I did not think to do is listen to see if I got that beep from
BOTH speakers. I may have gotten the beep from both or only one of the
speakers. Not sure but I'll check it.

Frankly, I could get by without the sound but the computer is my daughters
and it seems that most of her games are worthless without sound. And of
course there is the issue of iTunes.

I've learned from other sources that this was not an uncommon problem with
these early Macs. In any case, I've been trying to get this fixed for
months, hence my lack of patience for "Try turning up the sound".

Thanks for your interest and I appreciate any serious attempts to help me
resolve this problem. The sooner I get it fixed, the sooner my daughter will
have no reason for lobbying for her own MacBook.
