I cannot find right now how many watts the 2.0 Core Duo CPU's in the first gen Intel iMacs pulled. I could look it up if I knew exactly the Intel model number of the chips used.

Was it this one?

To answer my own question, they were Socket M Core Duo cpus, the T2x00 series, and there's only a few Core2Duos that work: the Socket M T5x00 and T7x00 series that have the 667MHz FSB. They're not compatible with the later Core2Duo CPUs used in later versions of the iMac. Best I can do is an upgrade to a 2.66 GHx for $325 or so.

The processors are expensive and hard to find, compared to modern ones :-(

The white Core2Duo iMacs are much more amenable to upgrading in this fashion.
