Given the design of the eMac, G3, G5, and Intel iMacs there is some truth to this statement, although you could take the MB out of one of the above mentioned machines and make what is technically a headless 'iMac' out of it.

But the G4 iMac most certainly can me modded to run without a 'head' without removing the MB from the case, unfortunately MacTech bought MacMod.com and I can't find the how to.

The one caveat to either method is that you need to buy or build something to fool the MB into thinking that there is a monitor attached. Dr. Bott used to sell one, or they can be made fairly easily and much cheaper.
