They're designed for use en masse, like disks stuck in magazines, system 
restore disks, AOL disks and the like. They're lighter and allegedly greener.


So basically they're cheap enough for use-once-and-toss. Reminds me of the vinyl records available in Asia back in the 60s & 70s. The vinyl was so poor that playing the record also destroyed the tracks for the needle. But it was a cheap way of collecting music on tape (reel-to-reel).
