I goofed. I've been helping a lady in Australia in a similar predicament, on the Outback.mac list. I'm busy, so posted and replied in haste. As I live in Oz, and you in the US, I fear we're a bit far apart. Nonetheless my offer to send a gratis, legit copy of Snow Leopard still stands, if you want it. As to ensuring your music, I would purchase a backup drive and clone a copy of your existing iMac using CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner, http://www.bombich.com/download.html ) before updating. Updating should leave your settings and information intact, but Murphys law can prevail (if something can go wrong, it will go wrong). As you are updating, I suggest purchasing an external hard drive at least 1.5 times as large as your existing Hard Drive, then swap the backup over to the hourly Time Machine backup method found in Snow Leopard, once you've successfully updated.
