Al,

Yes, it would work. You’ll need a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, and a 
Firewire 800 cable with male connectors on each end. The adapter has a Firewire 
800 female end, and your iMac has a Firewire 800 female port. I use a 
Thunderbolt/Firewire 800 adapter all the time to connect a wide variety of Macs 
to my late-2013 iMac in order to transfer files, run diagnostic tests, etc. I 
have Firewire 800 to 800 and 800 to 400 cables ready to go, depending on the 
port on the Firewire Target Disk Mode Mac.
