Dear Walter,

I do not fully agree that one reason for the success of online selling
of books is, that consumer doesn't have to inspect e.g. a book
before he/she buys it.
Although just my personal preference, my biggest problem with
books, is that I prefer to read some pages of the book before
deciding to buy it.
Would be interesting to know, how many consumers, who buy
books online, have finished their decision process, e.g. know
exactly that they want to have this book, vs. those consumers
who just did find a book online and think it might be interesting
(e.g. now, that Amazon shoppers in Germany can send back
books they do not like at no additional costs, I now buy nearly
all my book online with no risk of making the wrong decision)
Maybe its similar to consumers who buy cars online: according to
a study (unfort. can't remember the title) nearly all consumers, who
buy a car online, have made up their decision on what car they
want to buy and just the Internet "just" for the final purchase.
