Back in January, I inherited the duties of maintaining our internal NOC.
The Imail Server is a Compaq Prosignia 500 - P-166 with 64 megs of Ram
and a 4 gig HDD with two equal NTFS partitions. OS = NT 4.0, SP3 with
all hot fixes. It has been purring along with Imail 4.07 for months.
Imail is the only application on the system.
Recently ( 2 weeks ago), the system began unexplainably crashing. There
was no tell-tale BSOD, only irritated users who could not access their
mail. Imail services, although still running, could not be accessed.
Navigation of the system at this point was sluggish... to the point
where it would freeze causing us to do a cold reboot. This would occur 2
- 3 times a day. Nothing in the Apps or Sys logs show any erroneous
activity. I have upgraded to SP 5, and re-installed Imail... no change.
At one point, the perfmon counters I had set up on another machine
showed Pool Nonpaged Memeory on the Mail server at over 6,000,000 bytes
during one 'episode'. All other services were well below 20%.
Sorry for being so drawn out, but it's been a busy couple of weeks.
;-)
Has anyone else experienced anything along these lines? Curious that
things were fine up until now.....
