Well the CF mail tags are *ok* for small volume sites. The biggest
draw-backs are speed and reliability. By that I mean for example: When
you call the pop tag and ask for only headers, it actually retrieves the
entire box, but parses and displays only the headers. Major speed hit
there. There are also problems with the decoding of some Base64
attachments. If anyone wants to use CF for mail, my suggestion would be to
go directly to http://www.dart.com and use thier components because that is
exactly what CF does. They purchased the mail and ftp components from dart
and just plugged them into thier source. Why go through a "middle man"
when you can code directly to the components yourself (via the CFObject
tag).
I have heard that CF 5.0 will include a new, custom written mail tag group
that will be far better than what they currently have... but that will be
some time before that is released.
So my conclusion is that for a small volume site... CF (err.. Dart) is
do-able. But for any substantial traffic, don't do it.
