On the issue of Integration with Emerald, I just setup a small regional ISP
and with Emerald's help (actually their whole doing :-P ) IMAIL and Serv-U
FTP are now integrated into authenticating against a MS SQL 7.0 based
Emerald system. Users accounts get created either via the Emerald Manager
or the automatic signup.pl setup (we had to do MAJOR surgery with this
program...) and they then immediately have a dialup account, email address
(on our domain but it can be changed later if they want to host their own
domain, although if it authenticates against Emerald, they can't manage it
yet), ftp directory and Web directory. Their CC gets billed the setup
charge immediately and then billed again later that week for pro-rated
access charges for that month and then gets billed automatically (with
manually induced batch uploads/downloads) a week before it's due. It's
turning out to be quite a nice system.
http://www.iea-software.com . We paid for the Quick Start program and they
set the system up, showed us how to manage it, and came in and configured
Serv-U and IMAIL to use it. I'm not an employee of IEA, only a VERY
sassified client :-P

I agree with Christophe. There are several things that would make the
product a lot better and useful.
1) An API that would allow for more third-party add-ons, such as SMTP
plugins that would allow for things such as Anti-Virus Plug-Ins and Mail
Filters. (A big concern for our team)
2) An API that would allow the web interface to be moved to ASP, Cold
Fusion, or other webapp platform.
3) Integration with third-party LDAP and RADIUS servers, instead of
proprietary stuff. This would allow for more of a single login feature.
(This is a HUGE ISSUE for us).
4) Integration or API for billing solutions such as Emerald.
I think that if IPSwitch where to add these changes, then their product
would gain serious market share. I know that we would be willing to pay
2x the price for these features. As a developer, I know that if these
changes where made, that I would quickly write about 8 extensions to the
product, such as a new web interface and virus scanner at the SMTP
level.

Like the web based interface this should be offered by IPSwitch.
It would be a win-win.
1) Having more features more people would buy IMail ---> IPSwitch is
happy...
2) We do not have to spend time building these add-ons ---> We ( the
customers) are happy...
Additionally, if you spend time developing add-ons and Ipswich changes
any
"Interface/Protocol" you have to redo your work ---> wasted time
In short, Ipswich should put some resources together and add:
- A "advanced" web interface ( user friendly with help...etc.. )
- Some basic scripts ( in ASP ? DLL ? or CF ? ) for ISPs to automatic
tasks.
