There is a company in my city that has one of the big Gateway tech support
accounts, and they are the biggest joke ever. I have several friends that work
for the company, and what it boils down to is they are not interested in
quality, but quantity. Techs constantly "swing" calls to keep their talk time at
a level where they qualify for little bonuses. The outstanding Techs are the
ones who spend time and solve the problem, and they are usually yelled at for
having such a high talk time, and forced to be "trained" by some idiot who tells
90% of the callers "you just need to reboot, call back if you have any other
problems", knowing if the person calls back the odds are they won't have to talk
to them. It's unbelievable. It's straight from Gateway too, they pay for call
volume, not for quality of service. They should keep track of all the people
that end up calling back 5-6 times before their problem is solved. The great
Techs can get it done in one try, and that should be where the bonuses come in.
It's a strange world.
