Bill,
Basically, we only want to change those things that actually have code
changes. We do want the Administrator to show the current version, so that
will be changed in every update. To change the version number in each module
means changing code and re-compiling and we would rather not do this, just so
that module is truely unchanged. So if the POP3 service changes and it shows
5.06 and SMTP does not and shows 5.05, then the version is 5.06.
If we changed every module that has a version number, it would also slow our
delivery. Any module changed MUST be tested. So testing one or 2 is not a big
deal, but to test 15 is more demanding.
So we say 'look at IMail Administrator' to see what version you have. This way
there is a single place to check the version.
