Hi Daniel and all,
| Basically, we only want to change those things that actually have code
| changes. We do want the Administrator to show the current version, so that
| will be changed in every update. To change the version number in each
module
| means changing code and re-compiling and we would rather not do this, just
so
| that module is truely unchanged. So if the POP3 service changes and it
shows
| 5.06 and SMTP does not and shows 5.05, then the version is 5.06.
Sorry but I have to disagree with that. Since POP3, SMTP etc. are NOT
separate softwares, they shouldn't have an individual version number.
It just confuses people.
If you want to keep control of these modules, you should use other
identifier - OR do the right thing: put the CORRECT version number in every
module, every time you release a new version.
| If we changed every module that has a version number, it would also slow
our
| delivery. Any module changed MUST be tested. So testing one or 2 is not a
big
| deal, but to test 15 is more demanding.
So just don't put version number in every module... Although I think this
change requires much less testing than a module redesign, for example. It's
just a string!
| So we say 'look at IMail Administrator' to see what version you have. This
way
| there is a single place to check the version.
I think there's NO excuse to have a wrong version number in the "About" box
in Control Panel!
If it's so hard to modify, then DON'T PUT version number there!
