Ben,

I would also like to add that you do not have to do anything special to enable this option.  If the sending user does not fit into your mail relay options then they will need to send a username and password before being allowed to send external mail through your server.  Just to reiterate Jim's comments, it will not effect incoming mail at all.  IMail will always accept mail destined to a valid user.

Jim,
Smtp authorization simply means that a user has to pass their username and password before being allowed to send a message through your system.  They way you recieve mail is unchanged.  Keep in mind however that smtp authorization is not supported by all email clients, outlooks supports it, for example, but Netscape Messenger does not.  If you enable it and your users do not have complient email clients they will not be able to send mail.

If this is selected, how do you get incoming email?  I would like to implement this option, but don't want to do it before I know all the implications.

Subject: [IMail Forum] How to enable use authentication for sending mail through Imail SMTP server?

There is a Web page http://www.ipswitch.com/products/IMail_Server/nospam.html  saying that Imail version 5.0 can "Authenticate user s before allowing them to send mail through your server (SMTP AUTH)."  Can any one tell me how to do it?  I went to "Control panel | Imail server | SMTP Security tab" but found no such feature.  I will appreciate any help from you.
