When Internet is screwing up, POP3 sessions can be botched and the POP3 client and Imail POP3 server get out of sync as to what msg is in what state (read, unread, whatever).  This can result in hung POP3 sessions (POP3 client said delete msg X but POP3 server says no such msg exists) in my case with Eudora and many duplicate msgs. I suppose the could happen if the user's machine stopped in the middle of a POP3 session.
