Stay away from WinModems, PC-Tel modems, HSP modems
and the others of this new breed that rely on the PC CPU for horsepower!
They may be good enough for a "Free" PC, but for a Server (or a customer that
you have to support!) they are nothing but trouble.....

so many good ideas, TAPI doesn't seem to work out so well in practice.
Winmodems are the scourge of the Earth, they're the only thing I hate worse
than printers....

Very much agreed, couriers work
excellent in our experience. I still don't understand why IPSwitch has
developed it the way they did, I thought the whole idea of TAPI was add the
abstraction layer needed to get away from these proprietary drivers. So why
don't they use it?

It's a nice add on in concept, but from the
comments I've seen here it might be a bit weak in the universality of it
faxmodem driver. So the key element is supplying a faxmodem that is
happy with the Imail fax driver, and also a faxmodem (external) with a
high level of compliance with fax standards (to achieve the highest
connect rate with fax machines and at the highest fax speed), esp if you
plan to send lots of fawes to a wide variety of machines over long
distances.
The cheapest winmodem isn't the percentage
play. A USR courrier or v.everything would be more like it. or a
Zyxel omni 288 or an old Zyxel
1496.
