We have been using Imail server (now on version 5.07) for our web server
since January and we have been having problems with mail being returned
to sender with a "host unknown" reply. It originally came to our
attention by way of a client who was getting bounced off of mail groups
she had subscribed to due to repeated delivery errors Those groups are
hosted by other servers outside of our organization and have an
automatic removal policy if they have problems sending mail to
registered recipients. Oddly, all the messages these lists claim to
have been undeliverable were in fact delivered correctly (the cients
verifies recieving them .. and the logs show them as delivered)...
including the notifications of removal from the lists.
We have contacted ipswitch and they have run tests, as have we (by
direct telnet and other DNS tests) and have been able to find nothing
wrong. All the accounts verify correctly, and the DNS entries are
correct.
We have also recently learned that others are having similar problems
and it appears to be related to virtual domains only. Most mail goes
through fine - but it seems at least one or two messages every few days
are returned to their senders with "Unknown host" errors...
Our Current set up is as follows....
5 virtual domains and our main doamin running on a Dell Server with 2
Pentium II 350's.
Less then 20 low use accounts.
The server houses websites only and is running DNS, and IIS 4.0 and
receives less then 10,000 hits a day from all the internet traffic.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom
