Boy, Some people will try anything.
We had this sort of thing with kiddie porn off our newsgroup feed, one of
our users got arrested for downloading it. We found out when they just
showed up one day. They came (FBI, because he was out of state dialing into
our 800 number at the time of the infraction) and did all the work
themselves. They never called us, they just showed up in the middle of the
day with a court order. All we did was show them where to find the logfiles.
After this we made it a point to verify our newsgroups by removing anything
that had to do with this sort of trash.
My guess is this "agent" should have identified himself over the phone
properly or maybe you should call the secret service to verify that someone
did call. Either way, if you let them know since their name was used they
may just show up and want to investigate who is impersonating them.
You can verify if anything like this was sent by looking at your logs for
user in question, at the time and date in question, and my guess is you will
not find anything except he pissed someone off and they want to get even.
But then who knows...
