Well, this didn't help, but it now appears to be specific to one machine --
the organization's director's (of course).  She has excepted that it is her
machine and not our system -- she was able to send mail with her account on
other machines and others are sending her email on their machines.  So, she
is having her tech guy come in and see what's up.

Thanks to all (especially Dusty) for the help and suggestions.
