It shouldn't be that bad depending on the interval.  Just make it user
defined and let them decide on the SQL check interval.  Every 5 or 10
minutes should do fine....at most IMail is down for 5 or 10
minutes.....which is acceptable compared to not knowing it's down  ;-)
