>Every 5 or 10 > minutes should do fine.... If you only check every 10 minutes or so, someone will re-boot your SQL server and it will come back up before you check again. Or more likely, some SQL Server process crashes and kills your SQL server process and SQL Server Agent (at least if you're running SQL7) will automatically restart it.
