Background:
We have recently opened a new POP in a city 900 miles away. At this POP
are modem racks, and a PortMaster 2ER-30. All authentication is done via
our upstream's backbone to our RADIUS and MS SQL7 servers here. All mail
is also via our mail server down here.
Problem:
Remote users are frequently experiencing timeouts when sending and/or
receiving mail.
Proposal:
Install an additional IMail server at the remote POP solely for use by
those users.
Questions:
1. Is it possible to ensure that all mail received for these users is
not processed by our local mail server, but sent directly up to the
remote POP?
2. Is it preferable to set up the remote mail server as a secondary mail
server?
3. Is this issue DNS-related as opposed to mail server?
