It is a IP not a virtual. Right.  That's what I thought should happen too but it doesn't in this case. [EMAIL PROTECTED] can send and receive. [EMAIL PROTECTED] can send but cannot receive - just keeps asking for id and password on the client.  In the logs simplhy says that user is not a valid user. And if I remove domain.org as an alias then [EMAIL PROTECTED] cannot send so I know the thing is trying to work.   With the replies I"ve gotten I'm sure it is supposed to work.  I'm just new to IMAIL.  It may have something to do with the ODBC database or it may have something to do with the DNS.  When I have time I'll try to figure it out.  Right now I've just solved the problem temporarily with my old mail program.   Terry Fritts     -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Eric A. With domain.com being the real domain (vs. the aliased one) the messages for [EMAIL PROTECTED] are being delivered to [EMAIL PROTECTED] So for Joe to pick up his mail he would connect to mail.domain.com and logon as joe. If this is an IP-less domain he would logon to the main server and logon as [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the proper password. In essence, Joe would have one account receiving mail from 2 different addresses. Here's how:   Setup one mail domain with an official host name of mail.domain.com. Then set the alias field for this domain to domain.com domain.org <note the space>. Then in the DNS records for domain.com and domain.org point the MX records to mail.domain.com.
