Terry, I think what Eric was pointing out is that if the host has an IP then there is no need in specifying the domain in the login id. If the host is domain.com and the alias is domain.org then joe simply points his POP client to domain.com and use 'joe' for the login.  Since mail addressed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] will be sent to the same box anyway and logging in like this will retrieve all the messages.   I think what you might be confusing is the login id which is used.   Dusty ----- Original Message ----- From: Terry L Fritts To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, November 24, 1999 7:44 PM Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Host Alias It is a IP not a virtual. Right.  That's what I thought should happen too but it doesn't in this case. [EMAIL PROTECTED] can send and receive. [EMAIL PROTECTED] can send but cannot receive - just keeps asking for id and password on the client.  In the logs simplhy says that user is not a valid user. And if I remove domain.org as an alias then [EMAIL PROTECTED] cannot send so I know the thing is trying to work.   With the replies I"ve gotten I'm sure it is supposed to work.  I'm just new to IMAIL.  It may have something to do with the ODBC database or it may have something to do with the DNS.  When I have time I'll try to figure it out.  Right now I've just solved the problem temporarily with my old mail program.   Terry Fritts
