Thanks, Dan, that's exactly what I did was add the mail server IP address to
the hosts file as a short term solution.

Bill

Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] delivery to A records
This is exactly what a mail server is supposed to do, so it is not a
'problem'. That they have a mail server on the web host and do not have it
configured correctly, is the real problem! All they have to do is shut it
off!
If you wish to bypass DNS, then add entries to the HOSTS file. In this case,
the IP of the MX host then the domain name, i.e.:
207.225.40.3 paml.com
Since NT uses hosts before DNS lookup, this will cause IMail to get the MX
hosts IP and use that and no other lookup is required. Of course if they
change their mail server, you won't know that until mail starts bouncing and
you do some new lookups for the new IP.
Personally, I would not do the hosts file change. Send a message to the
postmaster, tell him the error of his ways and hope he is smart enough to
learn from your experience. Now if we could only get people to type the www.
in Web Browsers, then it would not need the IP on the domain!!!
