I don't know how to help you out with the filters as I haven't had much of a
chance to work with them, however I can help you out on the anti-virus
issue. What I've done to address the email virus risk is to install Norton
Antivirus 5.0 on each mail server (not necessarily on the gateway machine).
I then instructed Antivirus to scan all of the files in the Imail queue
whenever they are created/accessed, etc. To avoid some further overhead
administration, I setup Norton's scheduler to automatically grab virus
defintion update files on a nightly basis and to do scans of the entire
server a couple of times each week. Using this method, I've been able to
stop amazing amounts of email viruses that have come through the email
servers I administrate.

Well here is my problem and requirement.
I am using an Older Imail version.IMail 4.04 ..
I am a bit novice in this field of Filters...etc.
I want these two features.
1. I want to restrict the internal domain users from sending any
attachments through their mail clients...let's say they can't send any
files ending with .doc extensions.
Even if they want to send I should be able to restrict them to send to only
particular address.
2. How can I prescan all the incoming messages for Viruses. I am using my
mail server on an NT machine which is the PDC.
I am using another member server which runs a gateway ...which captures all
the emails from the net...and distributes it to the internal mail software.
Now Symantec has a software for virus scanning for the email gateways..but
when I tried to install it...it said that it can't recognize the server...I
mean while installating..it comes up with the box to enter the SMTP gateway
IP...and when I give the IP...it says...can't recognize ...and I have to
abort the installation.
Waiting to hear from you people.
I am sure somebody must be having a solution to this.
