This is NOT an IMail issue. We issue the standard SMTP responses. In the
first scenario, IMail doesn't accept the message the message due to it being
a local domain that doesn't have this account resident on it (550
error)..Therefore no "bounce" message is generated.. when sending it through
IMail to a non-existent account on a different domain, IMail will accept the
message as at this particular time in the transaction it has no idea which
users exits or don't on the remote domain. After acceptance, IMail turns
around and tries to deliver it and gets a 550 error and then is responsible
for generating a postmaster message since it already accepted the message.
As to why the client is going down the list of outbound servers I have no
idea. I use Thunderbird and you can configure a list of servers to try but I
don't think that's possible in and MS product.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Oulook 2003 - Imail bug?
Here is the case. I want to see if you guys think this is a bug or an
error
by design.
Scenario. Oulook 2003 with 2 email accounts, one in using as SMTP an Imail
Server and another one a non Imail Server. Let's say Yahoo. This test is
under a 8.14 version of Imail using SMTP authentication
1.Send an email using the Account that relays in the IMAIL SMTP server.
Make
sure you specifically send it to a non existing mail box within IMAIL. The
domain is hosted in Imail but the mailbox doesn't exist. Example
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
2. What happens is that Imail sends a response back saying that the
usermailbox doesn't exist and curiously Outlook 2003 then goes to the
second
Email account configured in their list and sends it via that second email
account, in this example case, via Yahoo. The message back from Imail is
undetected by the user.
You will then get a message back from your second email account mail
server
saying that user [EMAIL PROTECTED] doesn't exist. Check your Imail
logs, you will see 2 tries to deliver a message to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
One from your first email account (the one that relay in your Imail
server)
and the second try from your Yahoo account. In both tries, Imail respond
that the user doesn't exist.
Bug: Why Outlook 2003 sends and email using the second email account when
you specifically tell him to use the first email account the one that
relays
in the Imail Box.?
Funny things:
Try to do the same as step one but this time send it to a mail box in a
domain not hosted in your Imail Server, for example
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
You will get a response back from your Imail server saying that the
message
couldn't be delivered - a regular email message-. And Outlook doesn't try
to
send it using the second email account.
Now try to do the same with you yahoo email account. Send an email
relaying
on yahoo to a yahoo account, let's say [EMAIL PROTECTED] and you
won't see Outlook trying to use the second email account (your email
account
at Imail) trying to send it since it is a non existent account.
Outlook only tries to deliver the message using the second email account
in
your list when you send it via Imail to a non existen mailbox within your
Imail Server. Seems like the response given by Imail is likely to be
recognized as an exchange response and Outlook tries to send the messsage
using the secondary email account at all costs.
