In version 8.2+ the disable Auth really disables it... Prior to this it was called "Disable Auth Reporting" which, you are right, disables the reporting if the capability only but still allows the commands to work if you can force them

You need to fix your Cisco Firewall……I believe it is something like NO FIXUP SMTP or something like that.  It is in the archives, then the 2**********0* stuff will go away.

Additionally, the Disable SMTP auth just disables the server from reporting that you can do this.  BUT you will always be able to SMTP auth, the server just doesn’t announce that you can.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Strange 8.2x AUTH Behavior

Hi all.

We recently upgraded from an IMail 8.15 box (Windows 2000) to an ICS Imail 8.21 box (Windows Server 2003 Web Edition) and are seeing some bizarre behavior.  The HELO message from the server is a bunch of * characters and a few random 2s and 0s.  Additionally, the server refuses to accept the AUTH command (returns a 502) regardless of "Disable SMTP Auth" setting.  I was, however, able to get AUTH to work by using the "Extra Port" mumbo jumbo, but that is not a real solution.  Tried uninstalling 8.21 and reinstalling 8.20 with the same result.  This is a brand new Dell server with no prior Imail install.  I spent over 2 hours scouring the archive to no avail... Any thoughts?
Best Regards,
