Not quite.. Here's the order of look up:
Local Domain
Hosts File
MX
Stack
So if the domain is resident on IMail sending from a local domain on the
IMail machine to this moved domain IMail will still try to deliver it UNLESS
you have a unique Official Host Name like mail.example.com.. Remove any host
aliases so IMail sill only accept mail for local delivery to
mail.example.com and have a HOSTS file entry for example.com

If your MX doesn't point to that server, and you have a hosts file
entry for the domain pointing to the new server, then you shouldn't have
legit mail delivered to it.
Sorry for interrupting. This is exactly what I was researching as
well. So, your stating that IMail will look to a host file first for
where to deliver e-mail? Would that be so if an e-mail account in a
different domain on the same server sends e-mail to the domain that
was moved off?

Subject: [IMail Forum] Disabling a virtual host
One of our virtual hosted domains moved to another server.
We would like to keep all the existing accounts, for as short
amount of time, so that they can be cleaned out by the users. How
can I disable mail routing to that virtual host on our IMail server
while keep all the accounts and mail accessible?
