Heck... even Micro$oft is still supporting Win2K.... (at least they do when
you run windows update!)

We've stuck at 8.05 for a similar reason.  While 8.15 seems stable now, I
thank my lucky stars that I didn't take part in the 8.1x "testing process"

Most software products that I know of offer security patches for purchased
versions free of charge, and continue to offer these patches well after
subsequent versions have been released.  Not patching older versions, thus
requiring customers to upgrade (often breaking other system dependencies) is
NOT the de facto standard.
