Tony,

You might want to check out the IMGate project and mailing list. There is a
bit more discussion of RBLs there. The RBLs that give me the best results
are spamhaus, SpamCop, list.dsbl.org and psbl.surriel.com. If you add IMGate
or some type of *nix box with Postfix in front of IMail you can also add
rhsbl's like rhsbl.ahbl.org and MxRate. MxRate doesn't produce a ton of
hits, but is very accurate. With the addition of Spamassassin you can also
filter active blacklists of URLs within the body using XBL as well. I
haven't had a chance to test the latter yet.

Of what gets past that and other standard IMGate filters, I also use MxGuard
with MessageSniffer on the actual Imail box. That is by far the single most
useful content filter I have used. Well worth the $30 per month, and MxGuard
is an excellent deal as well.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Spam discussion...

Hello all...

I don't know if the rest of you are experiencing it, but the quantity of
SPAM floating around lately seems to have gone up dramatically in the past
few weeks. Unfortunately, so is the amount getting through my filters.

I would like to get input/opinions from people on how they are configuring
their IMail SPAM scanner, specifically:
- are you using third party products (e.g. mxGuard)?
- what are you checking off (and what are you avoiding checking off) in the
'Connection Filtering' option screen?
- the same question for 'Content Filtering (HTML)'
- are you finding the 'Updated SPAM' info we get from IMail actually helps?
- what are your 'favourite' DNS blacklists, and which ones do you 'trust'?

All thoughts appreciated...

Thanks,

TN

PS I use mxGuard, FProt AV,
- 'Connection Filtering' screen is blank with three trusted DNS blacklists
(spamhaus, spamcop and ordb).
- 'Contect Filtering (HTML) has Image, Script, Invalid, Deceptive, Embedded
with '3' as the option
