I asked Google about this:

"companies html messages banned OR blocked"

http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&rls=RNWK,RNWK:2005-25,RNWK:en&sa=N&q=companies%20html%20messages%20banned%20OR%20blocked%20OR%20stripped&tab=wn

Unsurprisingly, they don't agree with you.

Look, I have always sent in plain-text and abhor the misuse of HTML.
But our dreams can't be wished into reality: in fact, a _greater_
portion of legitimate mail is sent with HTML content now than ever
before, and flat-blocking HTML content, unless all of your senders
have been previously informed and may be expected to comply, is more
ignorant now than ever before. If you want to continute to agitate
personally against HTML messages, and you want to strip HTML (which is
the equivalent of banning single-part text/html messages), go ahead,
and I'll agree -- I've never been one to defend their claimed
usefulness -- but you've gone way out of the zone of credibility by
suggesting that "most hospitals, universities. . . " have already
banned them. You can't support this. It's FUD.
