If you upgrade to 8.2x, the auth-only daemon can listen on port 25 (as
it does currently), while the daemon that accepts mail from your
anti-spam proxy can listen on a different port. The users won't know
the difference, while the proxy would need what I'd expect would be an
instantaneous adjustment to send to port nnnn rather than port 25.

Port 587, the submission-only port, is indeed an industry standard,
and has been largely interpreted to mean authenticated-submission-only
(though this is not the only means of implementing the facility). If
you've been getting away with port 25 (meaning that none of your users
have it blocked by their ISPs) then you don't need to use
well-known-port 587 for this service, but can take advantage of it
nonetheless.
