If  by  "coordinating  that  change"  you  mean  a  flag day, that's not
necessary.  Send notice explaining why its needed, include configuration
examples  for  the  most  popular  MUA's,  a  support e-mail address for
questions, and pick a cutoff date a couple of months in the future.

Well  I  would  certainly  consider  using the submissions port to be an
industry standard.
