It has always been that way for a virtual host user. Always.
I've just checked both my Eudora personalities for Imail, one of which must be virtual, since the server has only one IP.
Both my smtp login names use one @, no %, and have been like that for as long as I can remember, for years.
user%virtual.domain for virtuals would be a support nightmare (EVERY user would have to instructed to use this unnatural syntax for email address ) and totally unacceptable.
