If DNS were on the same machine, Imail and DNs would be running two caches of the same data.
If the caching DNS were on the Imail LAN, the DNS query round-trip-time, RTT, from Imail across the LAN to the DNS cache is still only a handful of ms, a minuscule component of delay in an SMTP sending session that is often 10,000 ms minimum.
