We have been exploring different applications for a searchable ListServe archive, and I haven't found one that will meet my main need - to accept the thousands of messages we already have in our current archive (running on an Exchange server). I think someone mentioned a while back that we should just use IMAP, move the messages over to there, and then search that "account" as our archive.
My questions are: is this a viable solution? If so, how many messages can an account hold without bringing down an entire system. At the present I believe there are tens of thousands of messages in there (from the past several years), some with attachments. We have occasional users of the web interface but most all of them use a mail client to get their messages. The archive will probably be used several times a day, but it's not something that is consistently hit. We are on 8.22 (no plans to move for a while), running on a P3 866MHz with 2GB of memory and Windows 2000. Has anyone else done anything like this and if so, would you be willing to share any scripts or advice? Thanks!
