Hi all,

My v8.05 Queue Manager service crashed earlier today and would not stay
running until I rebooted the server.

I looked through the logs before the reboot and ran across this:

02:24 13:38 SMTPD(00010040) Queue Manager not running - Auto starting
02:24 13:38 SMTP-(00000000) Info - Queue manager started
02:24 13:38 SMTP-(00000000) ERR 071 - Max renames, possible killer message,
message(s) orphaned

These messages occurred a handful of times, seeming to coincide with my
efforts to restart the QM service (or when it restarted itself).
I now have roughly 1000 orphaned messages in my queue.
I've not seen this behavior, or this entry in the logs, before today. I was
only able to find 1 reference in the list archives, and that was from about
2 weeks ago, with no definitive answers.

2 questions:

Can the orphaned files in the queue be reprocessed by Imail, or do I have no
option but to delete them?

What is a "killer message?"

Much appreciated!
-Dave
